Roger Paulding's 2006 Book and Movie Reviews

Sorry about the thin servings in 2006, but I was still doing author book events. The 2007 and 2008 Review are much more full fare.

Roger PauldingNote to Readers: I generally review the books that leave a lasting impression on me, either because they exceeded my expectation or left me feeling I didn't get my money's worth. Many of my book opinions are posted on Amazon, and they're just that -- my opinions. As you read my reviews, look for the "Note from Roger." There are books powerful enough I find myself reading them twice, and certain passages more than that, when trying to figure out how the author managed to accomplish such an engrossing read. Consider the "Note from Roger" my second impression and a few additional stars endorsement. If you find my reviews useful and go to Amazon, I'd very much appreciate it if you click "Yes" on the link that says "Was this review helpful?" I hope you'll enjoy the books I ranked 5-Stars as much as I did.

Women's LifeNo more important work on Colonial women, September 11, 2006

Women's Life and Work in the Southern Colonies by Julia Cherry Spruill, Paperback.

This is a handbook for anyone studying or writing about the Colonial period. I found it absolutely indespensable in writing two novels of the period. It is also just plain fun to read if you are a devotee of history.

Chris, A Memoir5.0 out of 5 stars Elegant, sad, but life-affirming, February 23, 2006

Chris: A Memoir by Joe Marziotti, Paperback.

This true story of a courageous young man faced with terminal illness will tug at your heart strings as you read about him, his father and his mother's journey through through his shortened life. You will come away with a warning for your own progeny about swimming in polluted waters which undoubtedly led to Chris and a friend's demise. Elegantly written but easy-to-read. Well worth your time.
