About Roger Paulding

Roger PauldingYou will note from my website that I am an avid reader and a compulsive writer. I read for pleasure in several genres. When extremely pleased or displeased by a book (that I've paid good money to buy), I often feel compelled to write a book review

I write in several genres -- historical novels, mysteries and thrillers, historical romance, and family histories. As to writing credits, my first short stories were published while I was still in college and I have garnered a number of writing awards in the years since.

After graduating from college, my first job was as manager of the Publicity Department at Hardin-Simmons University. I've worked in sales and marketing for several companies over the years since. I The last ten years of my career was in technical writing.

The Pickled Dog CaperSince retiring, I've penned five novels (four still in-progress) and written numerous articles and book reviews. My novel, The Pickled Dog, set in 1760s Queen Anne County Maryland, was released in November 2005 by Panther Creek Press.

In my professional career, I wrote advertising copy, marketing materials, technical documents, and business reports. I also edited the work of other professional and technical writers. After retirement, I became a founding member of Houston Writers Guild, a Houston area writers group, where I have helped other writers develop ideas into well-told stories and edited their book manuscripts for spelling, syntax, and grammar glitches before publication. In the years since its founding, the Fort Bend Writers Guild has produced many critically acclaimed authors.

If you live in Houston and write fiction, I invite you to become a member of Houston Writers Guild or attend one of our writers workshops. You can bring the allotted number of book manuscript pages to our weekly meeting and receive the benefit of members critiques (including my own) of your literary work for free. By entering one of writers contests, you will receive a critique of your literary work by published writers and perhaps win some money.

Of course, if you can't make Fort Bend Writers Guild meetings and still need help in getting your book manuscript ready for publication, I will be glad to help. You'll find my rates very reasonable.
