Sentenced to die
the following morning, Richard Makepeace effects a brilliant escape,
only to discover that with his new freedom comes a strange
obligation to change his wicked behavior.
Makepeace's flight to
escape the Law turns into a spiritual journey. One moment you'll
laugh at Makepeace's antics, the next you'll be in fear for his
life, always conflicted because you want him to succeed. Or do you?
Story Background: While
certain historical characters from the 1760s Queen Anne County on
Maryland's Upper Eastern Shore appear in this story, this is a work
of fiction. Small liberties were taken in the timeline, but the
author has diligently worked to keep the spirit of the story true to
that of its day. All of the
quotations used to head chapters are from writers the characters
could have been familiar with. Special effort has been taken to
craft the dialogue only with words in use at that time. The music
on this website are folk songs from the period, the kind of songs
the characters might have sung. Below are some photos of locales
mentioned in the book. I've also provided links
to historical sites in Queen Anne County that will help
ground the reader in landscape of The
Pickled Dog Caper.

St. Luke's Church, Church Hill, MD.
St. Luke's was established as an Anglican Church in
1728. This is where Solomon Seney married Mary Nevil in 1732. In
1760, Rev. Harrison of Boston came here to take up a collection for
rebuilding his church, which had been destroyed by fire. Donations
were made by both Solomon and John Seney.
